ASKED QUESTIONS
What
are spider veins and varicose veins?
Spider
veins are very small veins close to the skin that
become dilated. They are highly visible ranging in color
from a bright crimson red to dark purple. Varicose
veins are dilated veins of a larger caliber vein
that are located deeper in the leg that can become torturous,
ropey and achy. These are the kinds of veins that would
generate phlebitis and blood clots.
What
are the reasons they occur?
Hormonal
changes caused by pregnancy or birth control pills can
dilate blood vessels and increase the chances. A job
that requires standing for long periods of time or severe
trauma (a kick or blow) to the leg area can also cause
spider veins. Exposure to the sun and a high fat diet
can also contribute to spider veins.
Where
are the most prominent areas these problems can occur?
Weight and standing are two
main reasons these veins appear on different areas of
the legs. The facial area can be another area in which
the frequently occur.

Is
there a way to get rid of the veins without a lot of
pain or a long recovery time? What kind of treatment
would you perform on someone with this problem and what
kind of recovery are they looking at?
Yes, there are different ways
of treatment. Sclerotherapy is a hypertonic saline or
salt water treatment or other chemical solutions which
is injected into the vein. The solution destroys the
blood vessel linings and causes the vessel to collapse.
Once collapsed, the veins cannot transport blood; thus,
eliminating the bright red color. Recovery time for
this process takes only one day and the number of treatments
depends on the number of veins. The pain includes only
the injection, but passes once the injection is completed.
Laser Treatment, on the other hand, can be performed
by the Aura-Star Pulse/Lyra, which is superior because
patients feel very little, except what can be described
as a hot pin prick for a fraction of a second. When
the laser beam hits the red blood cells, it evaporates
the blood and components in the vessel, which then collapses
and is sealed. Treatments can be performed on an out-patient
basis at the office.

What
about wrinkle removal?
We
have the latest Lyra-i with which we can treat the facial
wrinkles by stimulating your own collagen fibers. No
pain, no down time, extremely effective in a period
of 2-3 months.
What
(if any) are the side effects of these treatments?
There are practically no side
effects with the Aura-Star Pulse/Lyra Lasers/Venus,
except a slight sunburn like reaction that goes away
within 24 hours.
What
kind of results can one expect from the Aura-Star Pulse/Lyra
Lasers?
The results are lifetime,
with no veins reappearing. However, it is possible for
new veins to appear in other areas if the cause of these
conditions still exist.
What
other procedures can you perform with Lasers?
In addition to spider and
varicose vein treatment with the Aura-Star Pulse/Lyra
Lasers and Sclerotherapy, we can provide tattoo removals,
birthmarks, age spots and other vascular lesions as
well as hair removal and wrinkle elimination.
Now
with the new "VENUS" ("ERBIUM) laser,
we can perform the best "peel" for every individual
needs. You can have a "micro" peel or
a more intense "weekend" peel. These treatments
will allow improvement of wrinkles and overall condition
of your skin with improved elasticity and toning resulting
in a long-term, natural, younger, healthier looking
skin. Other disorders like pigmentation, acne scars,
shaving or sebaceous 'bumps' can be eliminated or improved
notably and without major risks (scarring).
Is
the cost for these procedures expensive?
The price varies according
to individual needs, depending on how extensive the
variscosities are and the length of time required to
treat them.
